For 10 days Tasting Australia is your passport to the premium, unprecedented eating and drinking experiences that only South Australia can offer. As one of the country’s longest-running food and wine festivals, Tasting Australia has evolved with the industry and continues to offer innovative events and indulgent adventures.
Family Friendly Highlights
Taste Buds (7-12 year olds, various dates)
This year, Taste Buds is popping up in Rundle Mall as part of the Tasting Australia program. Kids can discover their inner foodie with Taste Buds – a free program designed exclusively for 7-12 year olds to engage them in food, nutrition, food provenance and preparation. Develop young palates with this fun hands-on and sensory approach to food. Sessions will be led by food celebrities, chefs, producers, artists and gardeners who champion fresh, seasonal local produce. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Westfield Food and Wine Weekend (21-22 April 2018)
Locations: Westfield Marion, Tea Tree Plaza and West Lakes)
Westfield Marion, Tea Tree Plaza and West Lakes are excited to be hosting the Westfield Food and Wine Weekend in conjunction with Tasting Australia. You can register for Mini Foodies Masterclasses with Sprout Cooking for kids aged 6 to 12 at Westfield centres (just $10 with a gift to take home). Meanwhile, parents can try complimentary tastings from pop-up cellar doors, try delicious foods, and watch free demos with renowned South Aussie foodies.
Fleurieu Olive Harvest Open Day (22 April 2018)
Location: Nangkita Olives , Tooperang
Learn to plant, prune, pick, pickle & press your olives with one of the country’s top producers – Nangkita Olives – as your host. This is a fun family event where you can enjoy hands-on learning, observe specialist demonstrations, and try and buy olive related products from throughout the Fleurieu Peninsula and beyond. Always wanted to identify extra virgin olive oils versus regular olive oil? Perhaps you prefer a stroll through the abundant farm, picking olives as you go? Want to extend your recipe repertoire and understand the benefits of using olive oil versus other products? There’s all this and more – including hay rides for the kids. Enjoy a glass of wine, spitted local lamb and wood-fired pizzas as you take in the flavour of the Fleurieu.
Adult Lunch $45 – includes wood-fired pizza, spit roast lamb and three glasses of wine.
Child Lunch $20 – includes wood-fired pizza, spit roast lamb and two soft drinks.
Food Saucerers BBQ Gurus for Teens (18 April 2018)
Location: Scoffed , St Morris
Teach your teens all about the fun of firing up the family barbecue. This three-hour cooking class hosted by Scoffed and sponsored by Weber BBQs will empower teenagers to cook several dishes – including dessert – all using a barbecue, safely. A great opportunity to perfect the grilling technique, learn about different cuts of meat and how to prepare them properly, and cook with fresh vegetables and herbs from the Scoffed kitchen garden. Hands on and handy for every teenager who wants to take over from Dad!
Cost includes all ingredients, aprons, soft drinks, equipment and a 2-course meal.
Feast on Yorkes (15 April 2018)
Location: Barley Stacks Wines
A fair-like event showcasing local food, wine and talent in the unique Barley Stacks barn-style cellar door and function centre. Mix and mingle among the ambient atmosphere while enjoying local seafood, spit-roasted meats, beverages and more. All products available for tasting are sourced from the Yoke Peninsula.
