The Travelling Table | Food Workshops & Dinners | Unley | 6-9 Jun 2019

The Travelling Table – “Food. Life. Culture.”

The Travelling Table is a pop up migrant restaurant and workshop project that honours the long journeys that started in kitchens around the globe.

The Travelling Table is a gastronomic experience honouring and sharing the long journeys of Adelaide’s migrant communities who made a new life for their families in South Australia. These are dishes filled with love that have been cooked for hundreds of family members, telling part of their migration story.

Filipino, Vietnamese and Sri Lankan Matriarchs and families will curate, cook and share some of their treasured family recipes, stories and culture working with Travelling Table head Chef John Stamatakis (Executive chef of Adelaide Restaurants, West Oak Hotel, Roxies and Midnight Spaghetti) to produce a four-course ‘feed me’ feast of family recipes for a long table restaurant experience at the Unley Town Hall.

In addition to the ‘pop-up’ restaurants The Travelling Table will host three cooking workshops at Unley Town Hall and Pirate Life Brewing, offering the opportunity to taste and to learn how to cook Filipino, Vietnamese or Sri Lankan family recipes passed down through generations.

Sri Lankan Workshop:

Sunday 9 June 2019 | 11am – 12:30pm | Unley Town Hall

While the other workshops are now sold out, there are still places left for the Sri Lankan Cooking Workshop. The workshop includes demonstrations with some hands-on activities. Plus, kids under 12 with their parents have FREE entry.

Learn to make (and taste) a treasured Sri Lankan family recipe (Ceylon Chicken Curry, and Pol (Coconut) Roti).

The Food

The food presented is a snapshot of each first generation migrant’s home cooking. It is the bond that ties each future generation to its cultural heritage and South Australian migration story.

Each night, the four course dinner from the guest migrant matriarchs and patriarchs is a surprise ‘feed me’ menu that will fill your belly and warm your heart. The menu is fixed and not a la carte, but don’t worry it’s all delicious and there will be a vegetarian option every night (please note this when booking).
