Torrens Island Quarantine Station Tour | Maritime Museum | 21 Oct 2017

The Torrens Island Quarantine Station was built in 1879 to stop passengers bringing diseases such as small pox into Adelaide. Today, the site is remarkably intact and evokes the experiences of passengers placed in quarantine from the 1880s to the 1960s.

On this fully guided 2 hour tour, you will see the bathing blocks that separated first and second class passengers, the boiler house used to power fumigation, the morgue and the isolation hospital. The character of the buildings, the history of the site and the ambience of the natural environment make the Quarantine Station a very evocative place.

The tour will depart by bus from the South Australian Maritime Museum, please check in with the museum officers on arrival. Visitors need to be able to walk over grass fields and gravel paths for 90 minutes. Closed toe shoes are compulsory.

Entry into the Museum and lighthouse are included in your ticket.
