We’re Going on a Bear Hunt – 30th Anniversary Edition

Celebrate 30 wonderful years of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt with a new special anniversary edition of the much-loved family favourite.

“We’re going on a bear hunt. We’re going to catch a big one. Will you come too?”

For thirty years, readers have been swishy-swashying and splash-sploshing through this award-winning favourite. Walker Book’s new anniversary paperback edition brings the story to life for a whole new generation of readers.

Follow and join in the family’s excitement as they wade through the grass, splash through the river, squelch through the mud and brave their way through the swirling, whirling snowstorm in search of a bear. What a surprise awaits them in the cave on the other side of the dark forest.

In 1977, Scottish folk singer Alison McMorland asked illustrator Helen Oxenbury to design an album cover for her collection of traditional children’s songs. One song in the collection was named “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt”. Not long after, English poet and performer Michael Rosen came across the song and incorporated it into his one-man show which he performed to school kids. Rosen’s publisher saw the show and convinced Rosen to write a book based on it, illustrated by Helen Oxenbury.

30 years later, it would still be shared around the world as a classic children’s story for parents to read to their children. Since its publication, the book has never been out of print and has reached sales of more than 9 million copies.

The gorgeous coloured illustrations and catchy rhyming beat are what make this story special. Watch the author, Michael Rosen himself act the story out and see what we mean:
