Kid & Hub Review

Kid & Hub opened in Maylands on Monday 6 February 2017. It’s been described as a unique place for parents, offering activities to foster children’s creativity and a whole lot more. There is coffee and a play hub that you can drop into anytime, as well as formal pre-booked activity sessions.

What’s it like inside? Take a look at our pics below to check out this unique place for families.

When you first walk into this warehouse style building with lofty ceilings, it may seem a little sparse at first, but look a little closer and you will find hidden gems and a multitude of wonderful play equipment and high quality toys in every nook.

In the mixed-use creative space, you will be able to relax in the Coffee Hub and watch your children explore the Play Hub (below).

Dress-ups, play sets, educational and wooden toys with cushions to sit on, plus a doll house and books to read – there’s plenty to keep little ones entertained while you enjoy a coffee, snack or meal.

Everything is brand new of course, and also very clean and tidy.

There are plenty of snacks and food to choose from. As well as sweet treats there are also healthy options, including vegan-friendly items and organic coffee.

You will also be able to buy staples such as free range eggs, Tweedvale milk, ready-made dinners like lasagna and salads for dinner, and coffee beans; plus things like nappies, wipes, nappy balm and hand cream (all Thank You brand).

This will be so handy on those days when the thought of taking your child to the supermarket, or cooking, is all too hard.

A large table sits between the cafe and the Play Hub where you can sit before and after a class, drop in to catch up with a friend, or just visit with your child. This is a shared table so will encourage people to mingle. There are also some stools and a high bench along the wall to sit at. Please note that this one large table pictured below is the only one in the cafe at present.

A baby change table is available and a family toilet as well.

In the Activity Hub you can enjoy arts, crafts, music and sport.

When we visited, a Music & Movement Class was taking place. Offered to all age groups, this is an intimate class with a maximum of six families.

Kid & Hub’s Music & Movement encourages little ones to learn through music. The class involves singing, dancing and playing percussion instruments. Plus bubbles!

These adorable kids and their lovely parents were totally engaged and looked like they had a ball at this class. Thank you to all of these families for letting me (and my camera) crash their class.

Tables and chairs are all perfect sized for mini people and there is so much to discover all around the room.

The Craft & Sensory Class involves a range of different sensory experiences using items that you may not have thought of using before. These classes generally only have up to 10 children in a class, occasionally up to 12 children, so again it’s not crowded or too overwhelming.

Kid & Hub (19)

Not only does sensory play encourage fine motor skills, but children can also explore and use their imagination with all these items.

This blue squishy jelly is sure to be a favourite.

One of the best things about all of this sensory play – the mess is not at your house! That’s right, the kids get to have plenty of messy play and you won’t need to clean it up. That’s a winner right there isn’t it? Just make sure they are wearing play clothes that you don’t mind getting a bit dirty.

Kid & Hub offer many other activities, including sport and yoga; with things like language, toolbox and cooking coming soon. Birthday parties will also be offered in the near future.

The story behind Kid & Hub

The spaghetti above was lovingly cooked by the founders of Kid & Hub – the very talented and lovely Stacey & Giuliana. These two Adelaide mums have been friends for about 20 years – ever since they met when they worked in retail together in their Uni days. Having returned to Adelaide after living in Melbourne, both with young children, they saw a gap for a unique and creative play centre with activities not currently being offered here.

Similar to our Play & Go foundations six years ago, when Stacey & Giuliana looked around for somewhere different to take their kids, there was nothing like Kid & Hub locally, so… they decided to create it themselves.

It is obvious when you look around that much thought and planning, as well as super hard work has gone into creating this haven for families. This is a place that little kids and their parents are sure to love visiting regularly to enjoy new experiences together.

Rainy days. Scorching hot days. There are times when it’s just not practical to play outside, but kids need somewhere to burn off energy without running around the living room! View our list of Indoor Play Cafes in Adelaide.
