Loxton shines brighter than ever during their annual lights festival.

Chistmas is a magical time, full of enchantment, celebration and family. Now in its 28th year, the Loxton Lights Festival will once again showcase the joyous festive season for locals and visitors alike.

An enormous Christmas tree dazzles in the heart of town and from there, large clusters of residential streets feature homes adorned with over 350 illuminated Christmas scenes, paintings and coloured light displays. Wander the shopping precinct and soak up the atmosphere of the festive season with music playing in East Terrace. Delight at the beautifully decorated shops that explode with gifts for all the family .

Loxton is situated in the Riverland of South Australia. A two and a half hour drive east of Adelaide, Loxton is a popular destination for sheer relaxation, indulgences in food and wine, aquatic and outdoor activities and of course the Christmas Festival.

Loxton Light Up Day:

Saturday 30 November 2019 | 9am – 9pm

Loxton shines brighter than ever on Light Up Day. It is the town’s major event of the year and one of the Riverland’s most popular and enduring family festivals attracting up to 8,000 people.

For over 25 years, Light Up Day has marked the beginning of the Loxton Christmas Lights Festival, and is the perfect way to start the festive season. Fun for the whole family, there is live entertainment, free children’s craft & activities, twilight markets, food trucks and shops open all day.

Hundreds of kids visit Santa and follow the Reindeer Road to collect free gifts, then everyone comes together for the spectacular fireworks display on the banks of the Murray River.

Bike the Night:

Sunday 22 December 2019

A great way to see the lights is by cycling the sights. Take the family to Heritage Park to decorate your bikes or scooters (and yourself) with free glow sticks before riding off to explore the streets in and around Santa’s Walk. Then return to enjoy refreshments from Little Miss Daisy Pop Up Caravan including smoothies, milkshakes, ice-cream, coffee, cakes and donuts. Weather permitting. From 8pm – 9:30pm.

Little Town Christmas:

Little Town Productions returns in 2019 celebrating it’s 20th year with a new Christmas production: “Three Kings”. Audiences will be captivated by the story of the nativity as told through the eyes of people who were there (and many who weren’t) allowing them to experience the humour, emotion and majesty of an event which ultimately changed the world.

Held at St Peter’s Lutheran Church including an outdoor market place, the Bethlehem bakehouse and Little Town choir, all add up to the unique Little Town experience.


Christmas Craft Fair:

Sunday 1 December 2019

Find real Christmas treasure at the Craft Fair, with a variety of local, handcrafted and baked goods on offer. Unique Christmas gifts are a specialty at the Fair. Held in the, RSL Hall, Tobruk Tce from 10am – 3pm. Free of charge.

Community Carols:

Sunday 15 December 2019

Get the family together for Loxton’s very own Carols by Candlelight. The combined churches of Loxton invite the community to gather and sing along to carols on the rotunda lawn in East Terrace. From 7.30pm (prelude from 7pm). If inclement weather, Carols will move to the Life Centre, Loxton Luther School, Luther Road. Take a chair.

Christmas Tree Festival:

30 November – 17 December 2019

Nothing says Christmas like the sight of a beautifully decorated tree. This year’s theme is ‘Characters and Colours of Christmas’ which will showcase trees decorated by local community groups and schools. Gold coin entry. Held in Loxton CWA Hall, Kokoda Tce, Loxton. Open 11am – 5pm. Groups by prior arrangement (contact Caudis 0427 846 089)

Visit Santa:

November 30 and throughout December 2019

Light Up Day – Children can visit Santa in his magical workshop on Light Up Day and then in the first week of 2 – 7 December at Riverland Motor Group, 1 East Terrace from 10am – 5pm. Free gift for every child.

Or you can visit Santa at the Loxton Newsagency on Saturday 14 and 21 December, between 10am – 12 noon at 12 East Tce.
