Wallis Mainline Drive In | Our Last Summer – Memories That Remain | Movie Schedule

Adelaide’s Last Drive-In to close in 2022 – Wallis Cinema’s Mainline Last Summer Program

Adelaide’s only remaining outdoor drive-in cinema – Mainline Drive-In at Gepps Cross – will close in February 2022.

The Wallis family, after 65 years of operating, has made the difficult decision to close the Gepps Cross Mainline Drive-In after the upcoming Summer season. Announcing the news on their Wallis Mainline Drive-in Facebook page, they are promising to make their last season a memorable one, naming it Our Last Summer – Memories That Remain.

The final movie schedule for December 2021 and January 2022 includes family friendly movies such as Clifford The Big Red Dog, Sing 2, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial – 40th Anniversary and Addams Family 2. In February you can watch films such as Encanto and the original classic Grease (1978).

You can also be amongst the first to see Ghostbusters Afterlife (PG) and the last to see in the New Year at Mainline Drive-in – book tickets and find out more here.

You can view the upcoming program of movies and book tickets on the Wallis website link below.

The cost for one movie is $25 PER CAR PER FILM (maximum of 5 people per car – extra persons $10 each).

Reasons for the closure include the changing nature of the cinema industry, daylight saving, film piracy and the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Families are encouraged to make the most of the summer holidays and enjoy the drive-in experience one last time before it is switched off for the last time.

Play & Go Tips on What to Bring to the Drive-In Movies:

Pack the car with pillows, blankets and movie snacks to make yourself as comfortable as possible.

Bring a picnic basket from home with an easy dinner or pick up something such as a roast chicken, fish & chips or your favourite take-away on the way there. There is also a cafe located inside the drive-in that sells snacks, popcorn, ice-creams, drinks and hot food.

Be sure to rug up on chilly nights as your car engine will be turned off. The movie is broadcast over a local radio channel (our car kept turning itself off during the film!) so we recommend bringing a portable radio. The kids can even go dressed in their pyjamas so they’re ready for bed when you get home!

Cars with rear hatches that open right up such as SUV’s and station wagons are ideal – kids love piling into the back with sleeping bags, pillows and bean bags.

Remember you are allowed to take the family dog too!
