Mainline Drive In | Adelaide’s Only Drive In Cinema NOW CLOSED | Gepps Cross

*UPDATE: Tuesday 24 March 2020*

In response to the new government regulation that came into effect Monday 23 March, all entertainment venues such as cinemas and drive-ins are now closed. Read more HERE.

How to see a new release movie during coronavirus restrictions.

Mainline Drive In, located in Gepps Cross, is still open and operating during the COVID-19 pandemic. You can book your tickets online and enjoy a new release movie with your family from the comfort of your car.

Social distancing won’t be a problem when you are confined to your car, but still out in open space.  They have a number of movies to choose from and will also be extending their operating hours in the light of the current situation restricting indoor gatherings. However, please keep up to date with current Government guidelines which are changing constantly.

During this time we would advise against going to the Candy Bar, so take your own snacks and drinks (which is cheaper anyway).  If possible try to avoid using the toilets too – this may be difficult of course, so if you do, make sure you wash your hands, don’t touch taps, handles or anything after washing your hands, and observe all social distancing rules by staying at least 1.5 metres away from anyone else. Don’t go if anyone is sick – being in a car for a long time with a sick person is not a good idea. It’s best to stay in your car during the movie, rather than sitting outside, to keep your distance from others. The drive-in is not an option for anyone self-isolating or if a lockdown situation arises.

Currently the family friendly film Onward is screening (rated PG) along with M rated film Bloodshot, with more films to be added soon.

Session Times & Prices

Current session times are 8pm and 10:20pm (this will alter once daylight savings finishes)

 The cost for a car with 2 people is $18 and for a car with 3-5 people is $25.

What to bring to the Family Flix drive in movies:

Pack the car with pillows, blankets and movie snacks to make yourself as comfortable as possible.

Bring a picnic basket from home with an easy dinner or pick up a roast chicken, fish & chips or your favourite take-away on the way there. There is also a cafe located inside the drive-in that sells snacks, popcorn, ice-creams, drinks and hot food. {Please refer to our recommendation above though to avoid the Candy Bar during this pandemic}

Be sure to rug up on chilly nights as your car engine will be turned off. The movie is broadcast over a local radio channel (our car kept turning itself off during the film!) so we recommend bringing a portable radio. The kids can even go dressed in their pyjamas so they’re ready for bed when you get home!

Cars with rear hatches that open right up such as SUV’s and station wagons are ideal – kids love piling into the back with sleeping bags, pillows and bean bags.

Remember you are allowed to take the family dog too!
