Metro Bakery & Cafe | Mount Gambier

Metro Bakery & Cafe in Mount Gambier

Review by Claire Davill

The Metro Bakery & Cafe in central Mount Gambier is the perfect family-friendly spot for breakfast, brunch or lunch, or a quick coffee and cake.

Located on Commercial Street East, the Metro Bakery & Cafe is sprawling with plenty of booths and tables inside, out the front, plus out the back in a colourful courtyard.

There’s plenty to spot inside and outside of the cafe including bright murals, steampunk installations, and shelves full of delicious cakes, pastries and baked goods.

All of their cakes and breads are baked in-house, and there are gluten free options available. The coffee is top notch, and there are generous milkshakes for the kids.

The breakfasts are well-priced, with generous serves and delicious options. The pancakes are fluffy, eggs cooked to perfection, and there are interesting options like breakfast gnocchi with a poached egg and pancetta.

There are breakfast staples too, with crusty bread and eggs and bacon. For picky eaters, there’s an option to build your own breakfast from the sides available.

Service is fast and the cafe opens early in the morning. Bookings are advisable for larger groups on the weekends, as this place is very popular!

We recommend sitting out the back in the courtyard surrounded by bright murals when the weather allows. There’s room here for kids to spread out and it’s a little quieter. You can access the courtyard via the cafe or around the back from Percy Street – there is a parking lot on Percy Street also. There’s very limited street parking in front of the cafe.

Location:

13 Commercial Street East, Mount Gambier

OPEN: 8am – 3pm daily (5pm – late on Fridays and Saturdays)
