Morgan River and Rail Adventure Park Review

Morgan is a lovely township on the Murray River with plenty to see and do, and the playground here is a fantastic themed playground based on the paddle steamers and trains that frequented the town in days gone by.
The first thing that catches your eye is the huge wooden play structure, shaped like a paddle steamer. This structure has climbing nets, a climbing wall, giant hamster wheel, steps, and a huge steering wheel at the top. The views from up here are fantastic!
There’s also a sheltered area under the centre and seats to sit and take in the view from below. The lower deck is accessible via a ramp and has plenty of space to move about. You’ll also find an opportunity for kids to walk the plank!
A smaller play structure sits across from the large wooden one. This area of the playground is suitable for smaller kids, and is also partially accessible via a ramp. It features a couple of small slides, ticket booth, fireman’s pole, tic-tac-toe and xylophone.
There are some swings here too, as well as some logs and stepping stones, and a springy train. Speaking of trains, there’s also a fun ride-on train here with a short tunnel and steering wheels, perfect for toddlers. The paths here are also paved to look like train tracks, for running, riding or scooting along.
Make time to check out the small train museum nearby. Enter through the old turnstile and make sure you check out the old train carriage with explosives stored in it! You can also walk further along the old tracks past the site of the old boiler room and the old wharf.
Things to Consider:
- The playground is not fenced, and the river is not too far away, so keep an eye on little ones.
- The upper level of the wooden steamboat has some gaps in the fence at the climbing nets and walls, and it’s a long way to fall. Watch little kids closely.
- There’s very little shade, so bring hats and sunscreen.
- There are picnic shelters and BBQs here, and more picnic tables down by the river under gum trees.
- Toilets are nearby in one of the old train station buildings.
- The nearby old railway ticket office houses a craft shop, run by volunteers. Opening hours are limited, but it’s generally open 7 days a week.
