MRASA Toy Run
The MRASA is pleased to announce that the Annual Toy Run will be held on Sunday 13 December 2020.
The Toy Run Committee determined very early in the year after the COVID pandemic hit that the event should still go ahead as the need to help the children and Vinnies with their Christmas appeal wasn’t going to go away. In fact, it soon became obvious that the need in 2020 was going to be greater than ever before.
What will happen for the 2020 event:
The TOY RUN will be a pared down version of their regular event. There will be NO mass gathering at Victoria Park and so NO mass ride up to Callington and also NO fair at the Callington Oval.
Social distancing and contact tracing are important requirements for any gathering. Thus, the organisers decided that it would be too difficult to achieve effective social distancing and contact tracing according to the best medical advice provided to them.
Instead, they invite all riders to go to Victoria Park on the day for a Drop & Go and then a ride with their mates.
All donations made on the day will go directly to Vinnies.
Donation Drop & Go:
Victoria Park will be open to collect toys and other donations (non-perishable food for hampers and cash donations for Vinnies) from 8am – 12 noon.
Enter through the Eastern Gate as usual and drop off your donations. Decorate your bikes to promote the festive occasion, say hello to Santa, buy a Covid-19 Toy Run t-shirt or badge if you have a mind to, grab a cup of coffee and then go on a run to enjoy the rest of the day.
Anyone staying longer than 15 minutes will be asked for their details for contact tracing purposes.
You can also drop off toys at a Vinnies shop during the week and say it’s for the Toy Run. The MRASA are also negotiating with Vinnies to have some of their country shops open for the Sunday morning to receive donations.
All donations made on the day will go directly to Vinnies. Motorcyclists of all persuasions are well known for their generousity and for supporting the community of South Australia when the need is great. So let’s all pitch in together, have some fun and make this day a success.
Highlights of the Day:
- Coast-FM 88.7 will have their OB (Outside Broadcast Unit) at Victoria Park as usual to interview riders and volunteers.
- Limited numbers of special Covid-19 Toy Run T-shirts and badges will be on sale at Victoria Park.
- A free special Toy Run Covid-19 sticker will be available at donation drop-off points, so don’t forget to get one.
- They are working on a virtual Show and Shine to be run through the MRASA website, so polish your favourite ride up and post it and get all your mates to vote.
- Decorated bikes and riders riding around Adelaide to celebrate the Toy Run and supporting the one special day of the year and ongoing “CAN YOU SEE US NOW?” campaign for all the drivers out there.
