Rundle Mall Adelaide Celebrates National Lamington Day

It’s National Lamington Day on Tuesday 21 July and you’re invited to join the celebrations in Rundle Mall, where you’ll find Kytons under the Gawler Place canopy selling mini, coffee, raspberry and individual lamingtons, with a donation being made for every lamington sold.

So, if you’re in the city drop by and grab morning tea for yourself, your colleagues or take a treat home to your family and celebrate Australia’s national cake.

There are many stories around how the lamington was created, but most point to the residence of Lord Lamington – Governor of Queensland from 1896-1901. The most plausible story is that the Governor had unexpected guests for afternoon tea and faced with only stale cake to serve them, his cook dipped the cake in chocolate to make it more palatable and rolled them in coconut to make them more pleasant on the fingers! Then she named them after her boss!

A local favourite here in Adelaide, Kytons lamingtons are made with their secret recipe sponge that is light and fluffy and the most delicious chocolate dip.

The ‘Make Your Own’ Kits will also be available again from Kytons at Edwardstown from Monday 20th July when they reopen after the school holidays.
