Oakbank Easter Racing Carnival 2019
The Oakbank Easter Racing Carnival has been a family favourite for generations. Bring your own food and drinks onto the course, enjoy a picnic by your car and celebrate the Easter long weekend with family and friends.
The Easter Racing Carnival has been one of South Australia’s premier social and sporting occasions for almost 150 years, and the annual pilgrimage to the Adelaide Hills track is for many a family tradition that goes back generations. Racegoers can bring their own picnics and barbeques, and by the time racing begins the car park is awash with marquees, tents and barbeques as families and friends soak up the unique country racing atmosphere.
A family-oriented event, the Easter Racing Carnival has plenty of activities and entertainment designed especially for kids, including rides and amusements, an animal petting zoo, face painting, Kelly Sports and roving entertainers.
There’s so much to love about Oakbank Easter Races already, but in case you need reminding about how family-friendly the races are, you’ll find 30 things for the kids to do for your adult $30 general admission entry on Easter weekend listed below. Remember – kids under 13 are free.
Stable Stars Kids Club Zone will be back at the Oakbank Easter Races this year. In this area they will be able to access FREE activities (listed below from 5 to 11), simply by joining the Kids Club. You can join up on the day to receive your welcome kit, or you can sign up online and ‘check in’ on the day and have your welcome kit posted to you before Oakbank.
Kelly Sports will be providing their ever-popular kids activities (see points 17 to 28).
30 Things For The Kids To Do
1/ BYO – Everything! Oakbank Racecourse is the only race track in South Australia where you can bring in food and drinks (including alcohol). To keep the costs down, why not pack a picnic basket for the kids, a bottle of wine and some beer for the parents.
2/ Visit the stables and see the horses
3/ Face painting
4/ Watch the horses race past – We all know kids love horses, but imagine the excitement as they sit along the track and see how close the horses race past. The best thing about Oakbank is the ability to sit inside and around the track.

7/ Giant games including jenga, connect 4 and noughts & crosses
8/ Totem tennis
9/ Dress up in jockey silks

17/ Basketball shootout
19/ Ten pin bowling
20/ Foam hockey
21/ Horse hurdle relays
24/ Arts and crafts

29/ Easter Egg Hunt – All thanks to Melba’s, the kids will get into the Easter spirit with Easter egg hunts. Times will be confirmed on the day so be sure to check in to see what time they’ll be.
