Top Things to do with Kids in the City of Adelaide this Winter

‘Hit the Town’ for fun family activities this winter, with more than 50 events, activations, festivals and installations happening in the CBD and North Adelaide.

Explore the city’s laneways, parks and playgrounds, or take a scenic trip down the River Torrens and see the city from a different perspective. Watch the city light up each night with a series of free light installations or find your sense of adventure and try ziplining in the treetops. There are also plenty of things to do around the city and great, family-friendly places to eat and stay.

Professor Flint’s Dinner with the Dinosaurs – 29 August 2021

Enjoy a picnic and a delightful adventure into the past, on an afternoon of dino-tunes, fossils, giant dinosaurs, native Australian animals, & more with Professor Flint at Adelaide Botanic Garden. This is a free event but bookings are essential.

Bonython Park

Bonython Park is a fantastic all accessible playground right next door to the SAPOL Road Safety School ‘Learn to Ride’ cycling track. The playground has a huge sandpit, double flying fox, and lots of play equipment for all ages. There is also a great new cafe onsite – read about the cafe here.

Popeye River Cruises

Welcome aboard! Take a scenic cruise along the River Torrens and discover parts of the city you’ve never noticed before.

The Original Pancake Kitchen

An Adelaide icon, The Original Pancake Kitchen is great fun for the whole family! Grown-ups will enjoy the classic pancakes and waffles, while little ones will LOVE the kids menu which starts from less than $10.

Marshmallow Park 

This iconic park has traditional play elements like swings and slides but there are also some interactive nature play elements which are fun for all ages. Marshmallow Park is fully fenced which is a big plus for toddlers, and with a tennis court and half basketball court over the fence it’s sure to be popular with families with older kids as well.  It’s now part of the Pelzer Park/Pityarilla Activity Hub, incorporating a renewed creek bed, Oxbow nature playspace and the Pityarilla dog park.

Kentish Hotel 

As parents ourselves, we love pubs with good kids’ menus, and you can’t go past the Kentish Hotel. The $15 kids’ menu, includes a main dish, a free soft drink or juice, and an ice cream sundae!

Majestic M Suites

In the picturesque North Adelaide (and just around the corner from the Van Gogh Alive exhibition), the Majestic M Suites is perfect for families. This new accommodation has two and three-bedroom suites that are perfect for families, big or small. Wellington Square/Kudnartu is just down the road too, with plenty of space for the kids to run around.

Light Cycles at Adelaide Botanic Garden 

Prepare to have your sense of wonder and fascination rekindled. Light Cycles is the perfect winter event for the whole family.

Visitors are invited to explore several wondrous installations along an illuminated pathway, each connecting the visitor with nature through music, light and special effects. It’s the perfect night out for the entire family and an experience the kids will never forget.

Explore the city on foot, or by bike, with more than 70 different trails for the whole family to enjoy. There are trails to suit any interest, including nature, food, history, art and culture, so the kids will have fun and learn lots along the way!

TreeClimb Adelaide

TreeClimb Adelaide is Australia’s first inner-city aerial adventure park. It’s nestled within Blue Gum/Kurangga Park in the city’s Park Lands, by the corner of Greenhill and Unley Roads. Your “little monkeys” can be just that, swinging and climbing across eight elevated treetop courses and ziplines. Pack their bikes too, it’s just near the recently upgraded BMX tracks!
