Onkaparinga River National Park & Onkaparinga River Recreation Park – National Parks SA Park of the Month for September 2018

All are invited to celebrate Onkaparinga River National Park and Onkaparinga River Recreation Park as Park of the Month this September.

These parks offer a diverse range of hiking trails that take you from the rugged Onkaparinga River Gorge to the wetlands and mouth of the Onkaparinga River estuary. Activities in these parks include hiking, camping, mountain biking, rock climbing and horse riding in the national park and fishing, kayaking and dog walking in the recreation park.

Competition

National Parks SA are running a competition where you can win an Onkaparinga National Park adventure package for you and 3 others. Go in the draw to win a night’s camping at Pink Gums Campground, a 4WD tour and food experience with Off-Piste Tours and a guided rock-climbing session. Simply sign up to their new e-news and upload your favourite picture of a South Australian national park. Competition closes 8pm on Saturday 8 September 2018. Find out more and enter HERE. 

Friends of the Heysen Trail walk – Bookings Closed

Join the Friends of the Heysen Trail for a guided walk in Onkaparinga River National Park. The walk will include the Punchbowl Link Trail and Nature Trail.

Sunday 2 September 2018 |  9am – 12pm

Bookings:
The event cost is $8 ($1 for under age of 18) and registrations are required by 3pm Friday 31 August 2018. To register and for further information contact The Friends of the Heysen Trail. Meeting point will be confirmed by the Friends of the Heysen Trail after registration.

Willunga Basin Trail Group Hike

Join the Willunga Basin Trail group on this challenging 8km hike taking in the River and Gorge hikes. Meeting point at Gate 15 car park, Chapel Hill Road, Blewitt Springs.

Climb and Abseil with Venture Corporate

Venture Corporate Recharge are running a rock climbing and abseiling morning with their qualified staff. All tuition and equipment will be provided and the cost is $109 per person.

Trail Running SA Social Run

Trail Running SA is holding a social run in Onkaparinga River National Park. A choice of 2 distances is available (12 or 16 kms), along the signposted walking trails. Meeting Point at Punchbowl Lookout Trail carpark, Piggott Range Road, Onkaparinga Hills.

Ranger pop up at the Punchbowl

Want to meet the rangers and want to know more about the park? Go along to the ‘Punchbowl Pop-Up’. There will be ranger guided walks and guided mountain bike tours with Escapegoat. Meet the Friends of Onkaparinga Park who will also have a sausage sizzle and drinks for purchase, so no need to bring lunch.

Beginners Weekend Walk for Women with Big Heart Adventures

Join Big Heart Adventures on its beginners Weekend Walks for Women. This walk will take up to 2 hours covering up to 5km on undulating terrain.

Climb and Abseil Day – Fully booked

Come and join the qualified climbing instructors from Outgrow on a family adventure climb and abseil at Onkaparinga River National Park. No climbing experience is required and all safety equipment and tuition will be provided on the day. The sessions are open to children aged 8 and above. Please note that this event maybe cancelled in the event of poor weather. Meeting point at Gate 15 car park, Chapel Hill Road, Blewitt Springs.

Kayak on the Onkaparinga River – Fully booked

Explore the Onkaparinga River by kayak. This trip will follow the river with a chance to see the local wildlife from the water. All specialised equipment will be provided and they will use 2-person and single kayaks. The event is open for children 7 and over and no kayaking experience needed. Please note that this event maybe cancelled in the event of poor weather. Meeting point at Kayak/canoe launch, Onkaparinga River Recreation Park, River Road, Noarlunga Downs.

Saturday 29 September 2018 | 9am – 10:30pm or 11am – 12:30pm

Getting to the Parks:

Onkaparinga River National Park -The park is located 35km south of Adelaide, the main walking trails are on the northern side of the gorge accessed from Piggott Range Road. See Maps here. 

Onkaparinga River Recreation Park – The parks are located 35km south of Adelaide. Access to the Recreation Park from River Road, Noarlunga Downs and from Commercial and Sauerbiers Roads, Seaford Meadows. See Maps here.
