The Picnic at Marble Hill is an annual wine and food event held on the grounds of Marble Hill, the historic Governors’ summer residence that was nearly razed to the ground in bushfires in 1955.
The Picnic began five years ago when a local winemaker saw an opportunity to highlight the renaissance of a unique region, bringing together a select group of like-minded, innovative Adelaide Hills’ wineries against the backdrop of an historic South Australian architectural icon in the early stages of restoration.
This cool, high-altitude, central region of the Adelaide Hills was once a bustling hub of orchards and market gardens, a tradition almost entirely destroyed by the same fires that tore through Marble Hill. Today, there is an increasingly influential presence of renowned boutique winemakers and food producers in this region of the Adelaide Hills who represent a modern interest in traditional farming values – small-scale, local, community-minded and artisan.
Guests at the Picnic can walk the beautiful grounds, tour the museum and the ruins and enjoy a day of live music and exceptional wine and food.
An array of local food, wine, coffee and soft drink will be available to purchase on the day.
Children will enjoy roaming the grounds and a face painter.
Wine glasses will be available for purchase.
This is a not-for-profit event with any proceeds benefitting the Cora Barclay Centre.
Further notes: This is a non-smoking event; dogs are not permitted on the Marble Hill grounds with the exception of seeing and hearing guides; the event is limited to 500 guests; parking is limited and guests are encouraged to carpool.
