Ride the Cockle Train between Goolwa & Victor Harbor | June & July

Ride the Historic Cockle Train between Victor Harbor and Goolwa.

With the easing of Stage 2 restrictions, limited Cockle Train services recommenced on the June long weekend, and will again run on the last two Sundays in June, plus the first Sunday in July. Trains will have a maximum capacity of 140 passengers, and there are no online or advanced bookings available at this stage. Long distance services from Mt Barker will recommence once further restrictions have been lifted.

Dates & Times:

  • Sunday 21 June 2020 | 10am – 4:15pm
  • Sunday 28 June 2020 | 10am – 4:15pm
  • Sunday 5 July 2020 | 10am – 4:15pm

The Cockle Train travels along the oldest steel railed railway in Australia dating back to 1887 when it was constructed to provide a link between the River Murray and the ocean wharfs at Pt Elliot and later at Victor Harbor.

The train ride is a 1.5 hour round trip, or 30 minutes each way.

  • Adult: $32
  • Child: $16 (4-16 year olds)
  • Senior: $28
  • Family: $76

Children under 4 years travel free but are not issued a seat.  Seniors fares apply to holders of the State Government issued Seniors Card.  Family fares apply to groups of 2 adults and 2 children or 1 adult and 3 children.

As a result of capacity restrictions on indoor seated attractions, the Cockle Train will have a maximum of 140 passengers on each journey, with tickets only available from Goolwa or Victor Harbor ticket offices prior to departure (no advance or online bookings available). Due to these limitations, trains will not service Port Elliot or Middleton until further notice.

SteamRanger has increased its cleaning processes and has undertaken Covid-clean accreditation, as well as a COVID-SAFE plan to ensure a safe experience for their passengers and staff.

Due to infrastructure works being undertaken by City of Victor Harbor Council at Coral Street, services ceased following the long weekend.  They will restart Sunday 21 June 2020, when train services will resume on Sundays only until the July school holidays.

SteamRanger would like to remind motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution when crossing the railway between Mt Barker and Victor Harbor, as trains can operate at any time of the day or night.

Tickets are available on the day of travel at the Goolwa or Victor Harbor ticket offices (no advance or online bookings available)
