SALA at the Silos | Artists Light Up Karoonda Silos | Aug 2020

SALA Karoonda

SALA at Karoonda Silos

The tiny Mallee town of Karoonda is participating in the SALA Festival for the first time ever – with its grain silos to become the virtual canvas for 13 South Australian artists.

Work from the artists will be digitally projected onto the silos every evening in August in a rolling showcase from sundown until about 10pm. Participating in SALA is a big win for Karoonda, which began the process to transform its silos into the first in Australia to offer both mural artwork to be viewed during the day – and illuminations at night.

It’s also a fantastic opportunity for the three Karoonda artists featured in the line-up – especially 13-year-old emerging digital artist Serenity McKenzie.

SALA at the Silos features art created in a mix of mediums, ranging from traditional painting and drawing works, through to paper mosaic pieces, photography and digital art. Three Karoonda artists have been chosen to have their work featured in the evening showcase. They include Emmaleise Maxwell and 13-year-old Serenity McKenzie, who both specialise in digital artworks, as well as painter David Kerr.

The other featured South Australian artists are: Ashley Thiele (digital, painting, drawing), Susan Thrun-Willett (photography), Susan Belperio (photography), Sally Grundy (photography), Deborah Farrimond (pastel, charcoal), Debbie Seater (paper mosaic), Vanessa Size (photography), Grant Petras (photography), Mary McQuay (painting), and Lyn Anstey (painting).

SALA in the Park Event:

SALA at the Silos will culminate in a special celebration – SALA in the Park – at Pioneer Park from 6-8pm on Thursday 27 August 2020. Work from the featured artists will be showcased in a pop-up gallery for one evening only.
