SALA Festival 2019 & Introducing SALA Parlour
The SALA Festival is an annual celebration of South Australian living visual artists. Held every August, thousands of artists exhibit in hundreds of venues throughout metropolitan and regional South Australia.
The extraordinary range of exhibition venues means that you can find art just about anywhere around SA, from traditional galleries to cafes, hairdressers, schools and other unexpected places. SALA Festival has enormous reach which goes way beyond the boundaries of the Adelaide CBD, with exhibitions in the Adelaide Hills, Clare Valley, Barossa Valley, Eyre Peninsula, Fleurieu Peninsula, Limestone Coast, Riverland and beyond.
SALA Festival invites the participation of artists of all ages and levels of experience in art-making. The art itself is as diverse as the artists, with all kinds of media represented: painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, digital media, moving image, glass, ceramics, textiles and more. The Festival presents an excellent opportunity for South Australian artists to be seen and appreciated by the wider community.
SALA Parlour is an interactive pop-up, drop-in artspace for children and young people located on the South Australian Museum Lawns. Children of all ages are encouraged to attend and create some art. Take your artwork home or leave it at the parlour and contribute to an expanding gallery of artwork.
During the week there will be drawing activities and friendly volunteers will be on hand to recommend some exhibitions to visit. On Sundays throughout August SALA presents drop-in art activities with a stellar line-up of young contemporary artists guiding activities for young people and their families.
