SAPOL Road Safety Centre | West Beach

The SAPOL Road Safety Centre has moved from Bonython Park in Adelaide to a new location in West Beach.

The new Road Safety Centre located within the West Beach Parks Precinct is now open to the public. It features a mock roadway where young pedestrians and cyclists can learn about road safety in a safe and fun environment.

The Road Safety Section offers a range of free road safety programs to schools, aimed at students, teachers and parents, as well as business and community groups. Sessions are held at the Road Safety Centre or at your preferred off-site location.

The mock roadway helps children to become familiar with:

  • Signage on the roads
  • Pedestrian safety
  • Road rules

The roadway includes intersections with traffic lights, pedestrian crossings, a roundabout, train crossing and traffic signs. All intersections are fitted with tactile ground surface indicators and pedestrian crossings are fitted with audio-tactile facilities to cater for persons living with disability.

The mock roadway is free of charge and is available for community use on:

  • Weekends
  • Between 8am and 10am on weekdays (including school holidays)
  • After 3pm on weekdays (including school holidays)

The traffic lights operate seven days a week between 8am and 10pm and participants need to take along their own bike and helmet.

PLEASE NOTE: While these times are usually available, the mock roadway can still be required by SA Police for booked sessions during the above times and will not be available for public use.

To check availability please contact the Road Safety Centre on 8207 6923.

All road safety sessions are FREE and can be booked by calling 8207 6923 or email SAPOL.RoadSafetySection@police.sa.gov.au.
