Start at the Gallery: Colour & Movement

The Art Gallery Start program is back again! It’s a wonderful free program for children 3 to 12 years old which happens on the first Sunday of each month. Families are invited to go along to enjoy art making, music performances and tours.

In September the program at the South Australian Art Gallery will explore colour and movement with performances from Restless Dance Theatre in ‘Seeing Through Darkness’, storytelling, dancing workshops, art-making, sketching tours, music and more. See the schedule below.

Nylon Zoo | 11am-3pm

Sculpture Courtyard

Explore Evelyn Roth’s colourful incredible inflatable wonderland.

 

Start Sounds – with DJ Sandy Bunker & the Dumpster Soundsystem

Sculpture Courtyard

Move and groove to the beastly beats of the most monstrous mutant sound system in town.

 

Start Art workshops – Collage Creatures | 11am, 12noon, 1pm, 2pm & 3pm

The Studio & Radford Auditorium

Make collage creatures that move!

 

Start Discovery Tours | 11am, 11.30am (Auslan), 12pm, 1pm, 1.30pm & 2pm

Meet in the Atrium

Interactive art experiences for toddlers, teens and in-betweens with Gallery Guides.

 

Start Sketch Tours | 11am, 11,30am,12pm, 12.30pm, 1pm, 1.30pm, 2pm & 2.30pm

Meet at The Studio

Join a drawing journey through the Gallery with your hosts; Artist Thomas Readett and Illustrator Robin Tatlow-Lord.

 

Storytelling Performances – with Helen Lawry | 11.15am, 12.15pm & 1.15pm

Function room

Enjoy the music and magic of a timeless, enchanting tale told by a master storyteller.

 

Colourful Choreography | 11.45am, 12,45pm & 1.45pm

Meet at the top of the atrium stairs, Gallery 7

Interpret colour and meaning in art through movement with creative choreographer Jessie Mckinlay.

 

Dance Performances – with Restless Dance Theatre | 1pm & 2pm

Gallery 11

Directed by Michelle Ryan of Restless Dance Theatre, Seeing Through Darkness responds through performance to the work of Expressionist artist Georges Rouault.

On your visit please:

  • Check in when you arrive by using your Start Art Club Membership.
  • Book into activities on arrival.
  • They’ve added extra tours but numbers and capacity restrictions apply. Arrive early to avoid disappointment.
  • Remember to social distance, wash your hands, and use hand sanitiser frequently. AGSA has increased cleaning on the premises.
  • If you’re not well or experiencing flu-like symptoms, please join online instead of at the Gallery.
