Strathalbyn Ballooning Regatta 2015 & Balloon Night Glow – 6, 7 & 8 June 2015
The Strathalbyn Ballooning Regatta is back in 2015. Over the June long weekend balloons will fly each morning at dawn (weather permitting) and on Saturday 6 June 2015, festivities will include a ‘Night Glow’ where the hot air balloons are lit up to create a spectacular sight.
There will be numerous food stalls, stalls with novelties, displays of model aircraft, helicopter flights and kids entertainment. This year’s event promises to be much better organised for spectators with lots to see and do, so be sure to get their early as large crowds are to be expected.
Editor’s Note: We went along to the last event in 2013 and had a great time. The kids loved seeing the hot air balloons lit up and playing with their glow wands. This year there are more activities planned for families so should be lots of fun. Last time the volunteers were a bit overwhelmed by the number of people who turned up to the event. They will be better prepared this time but if you are concerned about line-ups for food, perhaps bring along some snacks yourself.

Strathalbyn is easily one of South Australia’s loveliest country towns, surrounded by farming country and the most picturesque hills and valleys. It is a very easy drive from Adelaide, either via the Southern Expressway or through the Adelaide Hills. ‘Strath’ is the perfect destination for a day trip to take in the sights, visit the antique and secondhand stores, stop off for a play at a park and enjoy lunch at a local café.
Or why not make the most of the long weekend and stay a night or two in one of the many coastal towns along the Fleurieu?
