Summer Festival 2020 at the City of West Torrens

The weather is getting warmer and we’re thinking about picnics and sunsets shared with family and friends. Join the City of West Torrens for great free entertainment and movies under starry skies, fun at the beach, or maybe you’d prefer to make a splash in the park? Everyone is welcome to join in the fun of Council’s annual Summer Festival!

All Summer Festival events are free entry. Events with * for children, youth and their families. The festival program is subject to change without notice.

Open air cinema – Aladdin (PG)

Saturday 4 January 2020, 5pm – 10.30pm | West Torrens Memorial Gardens

Aladdin, a kind-hearted street urchin living in the Arabian city of Agrabah along with his pet monkey Abu, rescues and befriends Princess Jasmine, who has snuck out of the palace to explore, tired of her sheltered life. Meanwhile, the grand vizier, Jafar, schemes to overthrow Jasmine’s father as the Sultan. He, along with his pet parrot sidekick Iago, seeks a magic lamp hidden in the Cave of Wonders that will grant him three wishes.

Little Day In – STE(A)M*

Wednesday 8 January 2020, 1pm – 3pm | Thebarton Community Centre

Explore fun hands-on STE(A)M activities (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) including experiments, engineering challenges and demonstrations. Places are limited and bookings are essential. Bookings open in December.

Little Day Out – Splash*

Wednesday 15 January 2020, 11.30am – 1.30pm | Mellor Park

Free fun for 0-17 year olds and their families. BYO towel and water pistol. Bring along a change of clothes, pack your bathers and prepare to get muddy and wet as you splash out with fun water activities.

Please note that Little Day Out – Splash will be cancelled if the weather is forecast to be 36 degrees or more by the Bureau of Meteorology at 5pm the day before the event. No bookings required (unless transport is needed). If transport is required phone 8416 6228 to book or email impact@wtcc.sa.gov.au

In a world where people collect Pokémon to do battle, a boy comes across an intelligent talking Pikachu who seeks to be a detective.

Little Day Out – Beach*

Wednesday 22 January 2020, 9.30am – 11.30am | West Beach Surf Life Saving Club

Free fun at the beach for 0-17 year olds and their families. Bring a picnic and celebrate summer on the beach! Build a sandcastle, ride a wave, play beach cricket and learn about beach safety. Don’t forget to bring a towel and your bathers.

Thebartonia!

Saturday 1 February 2020 | 5pm – 12 midnight

The smash hit of Summer Festival 2019, Thebartonia! is returning to the Wheatsheaf Hotel and Albert Street with three music stages, workshops and food trucks in an expanded event area. The performance line up is stellar, and this is a street party not to miss.

Camden Classic

Sunday 2 February 2020 | 12noon – 7pm

Athletics carnival, food trucks, roving entertainers, kids zone, free face painters. BYO chairs and blankets. BYO food. Licenced bar. No BYO alcohol permitted. ^ The event time will change to 6pm – 10pm in the event of an extreme temperature forecast.

The Kings Fork

Saturday 8 February 2020 | 5pm – 10pm

Everybody’s favourite Fork returns to Kings Reserve with an expanded range of fun activities including a giant 70ft obstacle course and THREE wet slides (suitable for children only). Minimum height for waterslides is 100cm (3+). Bring your bathers and a change of clothes. Slides will operate 5pm – 9pm

Evelyn Roth’s Nylon Zoo will entertain with their interactive storytelling, everyone can learn circus skills with PLAI and budding junior archeologists can help unearth a dinosaur with Dig-a-dino. Don’t miss Adelaide’s best food truck experience and a great lineup of Adelaide musicians performing between 5pm – 10pm.
