Supanova Comic Con & Gaming Expo | Adelaide | Review

Supanova is the weekend event that has it all for fans of video games, superhero’s, comics, Star Wars, Ghost Busters and more!

Review by Adaire Prosser

Held at the Adelaide Showground in early November, Supernova featured celebrities and exhibitors from popular fantasy and science fiction fandoms, and stalls from local exhibitors. Many of the stall holders and artists featured are aspiring creators and artists from around Australia.

If you are feeling inclined to express your inner child or geek, cosplay (costume roleplay) is highly encouraged. In fact, you will find that everyday clothes tend to be the minority.

There was plenty to see in the hall across the two day event. Celebrities from science fiction and fantasy TV and movies hosted signings and photo opportunities, and there were Q+A sessions held across the weekend. Highlights from this year included Adam Savage from Mythbusters, Anothony Daniels from Star Wars, John Jarrett from Wolf Creek and many more.

There were free-to-play video games including a VR experience, and the opportunity to compete on stage in popular games such as Overcooked or Street Fighter VI.

For 2024, kids under 12 received free entry with a paying adult. We found things to enjoy for both the parents and the kids at Supanova. The kids loved the amazing cosplay, the Disney Store and collectables. The parents were fans of fantasy book stalls and authors, video game collectables and featured cars from TV and movies.

Supanova is held in the main cities across Australia once each year. If you are interested in attending in 2025, ensure you follow their website or social media pages for dates, ticket information, exhibitors and special guests. Start getting your cosplay ready now!
