Here are the top picks for kids at Aus Lights on the River this Australia Day!

💛Start the night by getting your spot on the Aus Lights Parade route along War Memorial Drive and King William Street. Watch the parade from 6pm, then follow it straight into Elder Park as the main event begins.

💛Kids can meet three cheeky, very friendly roving puppets — Eddie the Emu, Cookie the Kookaburra and Kevin the Koala. The giant native animals roam the park all night, stopping for pats, photos and playful interaction, with children even able to help feed them.

💛One of the highlights for families is the illuminated Rotunda, transformed into a visual storytelling space celebrating native birds through projections, animation and shadow-puppet storytelling. Kids can also make their own shadow puppets and see them projected on a screen.

💛After the parade, settle in for international cuisine, live performances, the official ceremony featuring the flag raising and Australian anthem, and a major fireworks finale at 9.30pm.

Jetty Road comes alive on Friday 6 February 2026 for the Glenelg Ice Cream Festival - South Australia’s biggest celebration of all things sweet!
