Tandanya Survival Day
For the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community January 26 is “Survival Day”, an important time when the community gathers to celebrate the resilience of their peoples.
Survival Day is an important date as people gather to not only celebrate and commemorate the history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, but to also acknowledge and strengthen the present and future of their great culture.
On 26 January 2016, Tandanya – National Aboriginal Cultural Institute in partnership with [Give Up Smokes For Good], Kura Yerlo and Port Adelaide Enfield Council – are proud to offer family-fun entertainment, presentations, information sessions and workshops, for their community to feel strengthened and empowered by all that they stand for.
Following the Raising of The Flag and Welcome to Country ceremonies, Survival Day is thrilled to present a live concert hosted by Natasha Wanganeen with a solid line up of local performers including Electric Fields, Big Sexy, Yorke Band, Hannah Yates and Jessica Wishart.
Throughout the day there’ll also be traditional dance performances, children’s activities, a BBQ fundraiser, arts & crafts, food and clothing stalls, the Tandanya Gallery retail shop and more.
Thanks to the City of Port Adelaide Enfield Council the day will later culminate with a spectacular fireworks display.
