The Bush Concert | Adelaide Symphony Orchestra in Aid of Bushfire Affected Wildlife | 1 Feb 2020

Adelaide Symphony Orchestra’s The Bush Concert To Aid South Australia’s Bushfire Affected Wildlife

In response to the devastating bushfires across South Australia, ASO Managing Director Vincent Ciccarello announced that an additional performance for The Bush Concert will go on sale.

All proceeds will be donated to support SAVEM – South Australian Veterinary Emergency Management. The response and recovery agency working with Primary Industries regions SA (PIRSA) within the State Emergency Management Plan.

SAVEM’s broad mission is to retrieve, assess, triage, shelter and treat animals of all species in an emergency incident.

The ASO will also collect cash donations after all performances of The Bush Concert.

Mr Ciccarello, who was on Kangaroo Island at the height of a total Watch and Act Warning, said,

Australians are still coming to grips with the impact of the fires that have been burning across our nation for months now.

But it’s clear that the devastation and trauma to individuals, families and communities is enormous. Not only have people’s lives, properties and livelihoods been destroyed but the toll on our environment, our native animals and biodiversity is nothing short of disastrous.

Dedicating the proceeds of The Bush Concert, a beautiful and inspirational story of the community resilience of a group of Australian native birds in the face of extreme adversity, is one of a number of ways the ASO hopes to contribute to bushfire recovery.

South Australian Veterinary Emergency Management (SAVEM) has been working hard throughout the Adelaide Hills and Kangaroo Island to attend all bushfire affected wildlife, SAVEM Co-ordinator Dr Rachel Westcott says,

SAVEM is deeply moved by the ASO’s response to this bushfire crisis.  The program sounds breathtakingly beautiful. The rich birdlife of Australia is sometimes overlooked when a devastating bushfire occurs. Birds, though they can fly, suffer in loss of habitat and territory. Hollow-dwelling birds often perish. Their food sources disappear. In the heat of the fire they are overcome. And yet, birdsong is one of the earliest sounds heard on a fire ground.

The concert is a tale about community, adversity and inclusion – The Bush Concert is the story of the Australian bush and its harsh conditions. The bird community is in distress as they struggle to find water and food during drought, and come together to hold a big concert to lift everyone’s spirits – The Bush Concert.

Based on Australian author Helga Visser’s beautiful book of the same name, this special concert experience engages the audience through song, dance, and the beautiful images from the book. *To celebrate Chinese New Year, the 3pm performance will be performed in Mandarin. 1 February 2020, Grainger Studio.

Tickets: Adults $26 | Concession & Under 30 $24 | Child $20 | Family (2a & 2c) $64
