The Compass Cup – Australia’s Only Cow Race
The Compass Cup is one of those wacky Australian events that showcases our warped sense of humour!
Back in 1973, the local rural youth were looking at ways of making money for the local community, and having fun at the same time. Someone came up with the idea that hopping aboard an untrained cow and riding it would be fun. The thousands of people that have watched the Compass Cup since would definitely agree.
The Compass Cup is a cheap family day of fun. Entry for kids under 14 is by gold coin donation. Spectator participation is encouraged – bid on a cow in the auction to ride in the Compass Cup, and if all goes well, win the race! There are also side shows, farm animal nursery, tractor pull and arena events for kids as well as food and drinks, bar facilities and market stalls. Highlights include the popular Ute Show and after-race concert.
