A Night of Celebration Under the Stars

Sunday 12 December 2021 | 6.30 – 9.30pm (POSTPONED TO 2022)

Update 7 December 2021: Statement from the organisers of The Lights of Lobethal Christmas Festival,

The Covid-19 climate in South Australia is extremely tense at the moment with the threat of the Omicron variant and borders open. After careful consideration regarding the health and safety of everyone and the impacts of uncertainty in the market, the Lights of Lobethal committee has made the difficult decision to postpone the Under Stars opening night event this Sunday 12th December 2021. Under the Stars will be rescheduled for the next year 2022.

Current 2021 ticket holders will be contacted directly and receive a full refund.

The Lobethal Lights Festival 2021 presented by RAA remains otherwise unchanged. Drive the streets of Lobethal 12th-31st December 2021

This iconic event brings together the community, family and friends for the official opening of the Lobethal Lights and signifies the start of the Christmas festival.

Following the two-year hiatus of The Lights of Lobethal Festival, this year’s opening night event celebration will make the move to the Lobethal Recreation grounds to comply with Covid requirements.

Families will be able to experience a night of entertainment and a festive concert atmosphere. With a spotlight on local schools, community groups and volunteer-run organisations, it will be an evening filled with music and Christmas joy.

The night will include performances from local schools, The Lobethal Harmony Club, Hills Heist, a feature live performance of The Living Nativity as well as Special Guest Artists.

GOSPO COLLECTIVE will be bringing their choral magnificence and fun, festive vibes to the opening night event.

There will also be delicious cheese hampers, featuring local and Adelaide Hills producers, available for pre-purchase online and collection upon arrival. Other food and drink options will be available for purchase at the concert from community groups and onsite vendors or you can grab a bite to eat from various Main Street outlets before attending the event.

Living Nativity

Immerse yourself in the true reason for the season as a collective of the Hills Christian Church Community brings to life the Story of the Nativity.  This traditional re-enactment of the events of the first Christmas, complete with a real baby “Jesus” and a large menagerie of animals, is an entertaining and authentically curated experience.

Biblical text and carols accompany the 15-minute performance which, in 2021, will be presented live as part of the Under the Stars Opening Night concert event at the Lobethal Recreation Grounds.

Please note that due to Covid restrictions the nightly performances in front of the Lutheran Church, Main Street, Lobethal will make way for static displays for the community to enjoy.

Flocking Together

11-23 December 2021

Free Main Street light installation – a bushfire recovery project by Fabrik, Adelaide Hills Council and Illuminart.

“Flocking Together” is a large-scale digital light production that visitors to Lobethal will be able to come together to experience at the Historic Woolen Mill precinct in conjunction with this year’s festival.

Flocking together conjures images of birds in flight or congregating in a tree but also represents the Flocking technique for layering texture into the sheer fabric. A fabric that subsequently is perfect for projection and lighting.  In recent years the Lobethal and surrounding community have been called upon to flock together in strength and resilience in rebuilding after the devastation of the bushfires, Flocking Together will feature children’s artwork from local school groups.
