The Studio | Free Art Fun in a Beautiful Space | January 2014

Studio Jan 2014

Many families are familiar with START at the Art Gallery which is a special event for families on the first Sunday of every month. However, you may not realise that The Studio space is open for visitors on every other day. In fact it’s actually lovely to visit The Studio during the week (during School Holidays and when it’s not booked for school visits) and other weekends, as it’s much quieter.

The Studio is currently transformed into a beautiful Indian inspired space where families are invited to visit any time and there are always great art activities for the kids – all free.

At the moment they have their Realms of Wonder exhibition where it explores the artistic life, colour and culture of India. You can make your own snakes and ladders game with colouring in or make anything you like with plastocine. You get to take your creation home in your own little gold box too. All free. We visited again on Saturday 11 January 2014 and the kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We spent at least an hour or so here in air-conditioned comfort and The Studio staff are always lovely and helpful. Please note that parents must supervise and stay with their children.

Just outside there is a snakes and ladders board on the ground to play with too. Plus The Studio is right near the Art Gallery cafe so you can grab a coffee, snack or lunch too. There is a grassy area for kids to run around on next to the outdoor tables of the cafe but the fence at the far edge of the grass is not closed.
