Uniting Communities Adelaide Lego Building

In the heart of Adelaide you will find the amazing Lego replica of the United Communities Building

Situated in the U City building on Franklin Street is an amazing Lego replica of the same building created by local student Connor Brennan in 2019.

Connor was 16 at the time and constructed it over six months while juggling schoolwork. The Lego construction is a 1:42 replica of the 20 storey $100 million building which opened in 2019. Comprising around 55,000 pieces, the attention to detail is incredible. If you peer closely inside the Lego building, you’ll even see little mini figures in situ inside the work/living/retail spaces. For example, Luigi’s Delicatessan – the cafe on the ground floor has been meticulously replicated including mini-fig customers dining and enjoying coffee. You’ll even see cars parked in the car park and mini figures on the balcony, and working in offices or relaxing in other rooms.

You may have seen Connor’s previous work – he also built an amazing replica of the new Her Majesty’s Theatre building which was displayed at the Brickalaide Lego exhibition in 2018.

The project was commissioned as part of the broader U City Arts Project, which was a collaboration between Uniting Communities and Guildhouse. The idea was to showcase some innovative works throughout the building from some of SA’s talented artists. The project aimed to create a welcoming public space with a strong sense of community. It’s completely free and families are welcome to stop by and take a look at this amazing Lego artwork.

We discovered that Uniting Communities U City building officially opened in August 2019 and is an innovative ‘vertical village’ with retirement residences, specialist disability accommodation, accessible serviced apartments, function centre, commercial and retail spaces and Uniting Communities’ Social Services Hub.

You can visit the U-City Building to view the U City Arts Project and Lego Replica Building at 43 Franklin St, Adelaide. It’s a short walk from the Adelaide Central Market with a laneway that connects it to Grote Street so it’s easy to park at the Market and stroll through to see it.
