VACSWIM is a government funded initiative that’s been providing South Australian primary school children with water knowledge for more than 50 years.
Online enrolments for the iconic SA Water VACSWIM water safety program have opened for the 2019/20 season. Now is the time for families to register and save the date to keep children safe in the water this summer.
12,000 primary school aged children are expected to enrol at over 120 beach and pool locations across South Australia. With the support of Surf Life Saving SA, Royal Life Saving SA, YMCA and a number of independent providers.
VACSWIM is a week-long aquatic safety program (not a learn to swim program) that aims to teach children vital water safety and survival techniques that could save lives this summer. Including first aid, entering and exiting the water correctly, surf and sun safety and what a child can do if they find themselves in trouble.
The majority of 2020 programs take place from Thursday 2nd to Friday 10th January 2020. There are some programs occurring before Christmas when school year ends from 16 December 2019.
Kyle Chalmers, the 2019-2020 VACSWIM Ambassador, adds:
“As an Aussie kid it’s important to be confident around water,”
“I’m so happy to be named a VACSWIM Ambassador… if being a part of this program can help prevent drownings and encourage kids to get out, safely and have fun in the water, then that’s a wonderful thing.”
VACSWIM is described as the best value for money aquatic safety holiday program with individual enrolment starting at $30 per participant.
December program online enrolments are open now and close 5pm Monday 2 December. January programs online enrolments are open now and close on Monday 16 December. VACSWIM locations also offer onsite enrolments during the week the program is running.
