Victor Harbor WhaleFest

Victor Harbor WhaleFest is a week long program of events celebrating the start of the whale season on the Fleurieu Peninsula.

From Sunday 30 May to Sunday 6 June Victor Harbor will welcome the 2021 season with a Welcome Ceremony, Expo, Science Talks, Junior Whale Spotter Training, and an art trail and painting workshop – all celebrating their annual visitor.

Program of Events:

  • Welcoming of the Whales and Smoking Ceremony | Sunday 30 May 2021
  • WhaleFest Expo | Sunday 30 May 2021, Railway Plaza
  • Junior Whale Spotter Training | Sunday 30 May 2021, Railway Plaza
  • Whale Science Talk | Thursday, 3 June 2021, Victa Cinema
  • Paint and Sip Art Workshop | Sunday 6 June 2021 at 2pm, Coral Street Art Space
  • Self-Guided Whale Art Trail – printed copies available from Coral Street Art Space (10 Coral Street)

WhaleFest officially commences at 9am on Sunday, 30 May 2021, with a traditional Ramindjeri Welcoming of the Whales and Smoking Ceremony at the new amphitheatre situated next to the Solders Memorial Gardens on Flinders Parade.

Locals Mark Koolmatrie and Cedric Varcoe will perform the welcoming ceremony with Ngarrindjeri and Ramindjeri Elders present.  Following the ceremony, visitors can engage with interactive stalls and visit Kondoli the inflatable whale at Railway Plaza between 10am and 4pm.

Children will also have the opportunity to enhance their whale spotting skills with Junior Whale Spotter Training taking place between 10am and 4pm.

This is a free event, however registration is required for the welcoming ceremony to manage capacity.

WhaleFest Expo

Join the SA Whale Centre, Marine Parks and Sea Shepherd in the new Railway Plaza for a free family day.  Interactive stalls, junior whale spotter training, conservation talks and Kondoli the inflatable whale.

Please note: the SA Whale Centre building is currently closed for renovations. The SA Whale Centre will have a pop-up stall set up on the day in the new Railway Plaza as part of this event.

Free entry: no pre-registration is required for entry into this event.
