Wellness Walk 2020 – Walk for Mental Health
The Wellness Walk is a family-friendly event to raise awareness of severe and complex mental illness and promotes walking as a way to improve mental wellbeing.
The act of walking is an opportunity to reflect that recovery is a step-by-step, one-step-at-a-time experience. On Sunday 22 November 2020, Wellness Walk are challenging over 1,500 participants to walk or run 2km or 6km – anytime, anywhere around their local communities.
The virtual experience expands the current walk over the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge and allows for community groups, individuals, and families all over Australia to participate and get active.
WHAT IS THE WELLNESS WALK?
Now in its eighth year, the Wellness Walk is the creation of Larry Smith, who started up the Wellness Walk across the Sydney Harbour Bridge after participating in the NAMI Walks over New York’s Brooklyn Bridge in support of mental health and fighting stigma. The NAMI Walk now takes place in more than 80 locations across the USA.
This year, each participant will receive at their home a “Wellness Walking Kit” which includes a branded race bib, event T-shirt, the popular Wellness Walk Medal, and giveaways from sponsors.
