Whales Sighted in South Australia | May 2020

Whale sightings in South Australia

The Whale Season starts in mid-May and continues until early October in South Australia. However, whales have already been sighted as early as 4 May 2020.

Two Humpbacks were spotted travelling west past West Island from Waitpinga Cliffs on Tuesday 5 May, while on Monday 4 May, a Humpback was spotted in Sleaford Bay. This whale was also travelling west – likely heading for their breeding grounds up the coast of Western Australia.

You can spot whales on your socially distant walks along the esplanade and remember to report any sightings to the SA Whale Centre.  We have spotted whales many times on our visits to the Fleurieu, from areas such as Victor Harbor and Port Elliot.

The SA Whale Centre has reopened from Friday 5 June 2020 and you can still phone (08) 8551 0750 to report your sighting.
