Support Your Local Businesses in your Area – Cafes, Pubs & Restaurants now offering Takeaway & Delivery
Of all the businesses to suffer during the COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing restrictions, it’s the hospitality industry that will be amongst the hardest hit. With countless small businesses already closing – either temporarily or permanently, the future is bleak for the hundreds of family run food outlets who rely on customers to dine in.
At a time like this it requires thinking outside the box and putting to good use the resources we already have. Many businesses are now offering click and collect options for takeaway and delivery within a reasonable distance from their location. Those businesses that can adapt have the best chance of keeping some of their staff employed and we can all help by showing our support where we can.
Delivery Apps
A new Adelaide group Your Local has been established on Facebook and they have also launched a free local delivery service app – find out more here or contact them to add your business.
Food delivery app Restaurant Runner was originally designed to support the Adelaide Hills community, but has now expanded to help more South Australians in more areas. Find them on Facebook here or download their app (available on Apple iOS and Google Play).
How We Can Help
It may be one takeaway meal a week from your favourite restaurant, ordering some ready-made meals from a catering company or having some baked goods home delivered from a local bakery. Social media is the easiest way to find out who is offering takeaway or home delivery in your local area – search Facebook or Instagram or ask friends for their recommendations.
The message below was posted on the Five Little Figs Facebook page and shows just how much it means when you support a small business, even in a small way:
19 March 2020
Because you came in today and spent your money with us, these things happened…..
1. We were able to order bread from our local bakery.
2. Our milky delivered 2 crates of South Australian milk.
3. Our butcher delivered our bacon, chicken and mince.
4. We put in an order with our local fruit n veg dudes for tomorrow.
5. Our barista got an 8hr shift which is awesome because she is now her family’s main bread winner as her partner is a freelance camera technician and all his gigs have been cancelled for months.
6. We got money to pay towards our rent and utility bills.
7. You made our hearts burst and gave us courage and confidence that we will all get through this together.
That’s what you did today.Small business is the backbone of this country.
SUPPORTING LOCAL HOSPITALITY
Because of the rapidly changing situations for so many small businesses, it has made the task of compiling an accurate list of the cafes, restaurants, caterers and food suppliers who are still trading very difficult.
Therefore we ask you to make a comment below if you know the name of a business still trading.
Perhaps list the suburb they are in along with their business name and best way to make contact, AND feel free to SHARE this post so others can follow too.
Check out the website Still Here too for local businesses still trading.
At Play & Go Adelaide we make every effort to provide accurate information to the best of our knowledge at the time of publication. We recommend confirming times, dates and details directly before making any plans as details may be subject to change.
