Syd Jones Reserve Playground in Firle | Review
By Claire Davill
From hills and holes to bouncing and bouldering, Syd Jones Reserve playground is a hidden gem in the eastern suburbs.
Hidden away in a quiet residential area of Firle, Syd Jones Reserve playground has a lot to offer. The central play area contains a big climbing frame with lots of options for kids of all abilities, and a large soft-fall area with mini hills, holes and trampolines to bounce and climb through.
A long stone wall contains a great bouldering wall with colour coded climbing holds creating easy, medium and difficult options. This wall is suitable for everyone from toddlers to adults.
The other side of the wall serves as a backing to a basketball hoop, with colourful targets on the wall to bounce balls against.
The playground also has a basket swing and a small spinning seat. There is also a table tennis table – there is a box attached to the wall of the nearby table tennis academy building that sometimes has bats and balls to use, although there weren’t any when we last visited.
There is a shaded picnic area with barbeques and there’s a toilet block here as well.
There is very little shade in this park, so you’ll need to keep that in mind on sunny days. The park and playground are not fenced, but most of the playground is set back from the surrounding roads and there is very little traffic here.

Corner of Sullivan Street and Coorara Avenue, Firle
