BREAKLAB Break Dance ACPA Adelaide

Adelaide has a new home for BREAK DANCE – Break Lab at ACPA.

Designed for young dancers, students will explore key elements of break, including footwork, downrock, transitions, and controlled freezes, while progressively building toward dynamic power moves such as windmills, flares, backspins, and swipes.

BBOY Perna, a dancer and choreographer from Italy, has recently moved to Adelaide and is running Sunday sessions at the Australian Company of Performing Arts. With over 20 years of experience, having started at just 8 years old, breaking has become more than just a style of dance for him, it’s a way to express, create and connect.

What I love about breaking is that it feels raw and untamed. You dance both on your feet and on the floor, there are no real mistakes, and every move can be adapted and made your own. There are no boundaries – anyone can be part of hip hop culture.

Now based in Adelaide, Davide is passionate about creating a space for young dancers to experience that same freedom.

I love teaching kids because they’re full of energy, curious, and eager to learn. If you earn their trust, they give you their whole selves – and they teach you something new every day.

For him, it’s about more than just teaching steps.

I want to build a place where people can learn the technique, understand the culture, and feel free, safe and confident to express themselves.

That vision has become Break Lab – a program dedicated to the foundations of break and street dance culture.
