Cultural Connections Fair Day: A Free Family Adventure In Parkside
If you’re looking for a free, family-friendly event in Adelaide that’s bursting with colour, culture and amazing food, St Raphael’s School’s Cultural Connections Fair Day in Parkside is one to put on the calendar. It’s all about showing our children that unity is our greatest strength, and that Australia’s diversity is something to celebrate together.
On Sunday 22 March, from 12pm to 3pm, the school grounds on Glen Osmond Road will transform into a vibrant “global village”, filled with food stalls, live performances and hands-on activities designed with families in mind. Kids can explore different cultures in a fun, relaxed way, while parents enjoy a long-lunch vibe under the trees.
A world tour for little tastebuds
Families can take a “world tour for the tastebuds” with free tastings and samples from Lebanese, Chinese, Indian, Brazilian, Italian, African, Irish and Australian cuisines. There’ll also be a special Aboriginal cooking demonstration and tasting from the Boandik mob, led by Principal Emma Fowler, giving children a beautiful introduction to First Nations food and stories.

Live performances kids will love
Throughout the afternoon, the main stage and oval will come alive with lion dance, Chinese sword dance, capoeira and cultural music, along with Italian and Lebanese cooking showcases. There’s always something happening in every corner, making it easy to keep kids engaged and entertained while you soak up the atmosphere.

Hands-on fun and creative workshops
Young families can dive into Aboriginal Signs, Symbols and Shared Art activities, as well as Chinese craft-making workshops that are perfect for little hands. Add in a petting zoo, soft play zone for toddlers, mini soccer, playground and nature play, and you’ve got a full afternoon of screen-free fun.

Relaxed long-lunch vibe for all ages
Parents aren’t forgotten – there’ll be a bar, sausage sizzle, cakes, fairy floss and more, with a relaxed picnic-style setup so you can spread out a rug, bring a chair and stay for the whole afternoon. It’s the kind of event where you can taste something new, meet someone new and still feel completely at home.
Principal Emma Fowler says the fair is about much more than food and entertainment:
At St Raphael’s, we believe that when we come together and share our stories, we create understanding and belonging. This day is a celebration of the many cultures that make up our school and our nation – a reminder that we’re stronger as one community.
With free entry and everyone welcome, Cultural Connections Fair Day is a wonderful way to show kids what inclusion and belonging look like in real life – and to enjoy a big day out without breaking the budget.
Entry is FREE.
