Flowers and Leaves Craft for Kids

Flowers and Leaves Craft for Kids

Use nature as your inspiration with this sweet and simple craft. Kids can have plenty of fun recreating a self-portrait (or portraits of their friends) using flowers and leaves from the garden.

Collect your materials on a walk through the forest or simply gather what you can find in your own backyard to get started!

What youโ€™ll need:

  • Flowers, leaves, anything from the garden!
  • Paper
  • Pencils, textas, crayons or paints

Collect flowers and leaves

Kids have fantastic imaginations. What might look like a tree to the adult-eye could be a spaceship, pirate ship or princessโ€™ castle to a child. Take a walk in your backyard or venture to the local park together and ask your child to collect flowers and leaves to create a self-portrait.

Create a portrait

Next, itโ€™s time to draw a self-portrait! Kids might also like to draw their favourite friend, teacher or family members as well. Babysits used coloured pencils to create these three adorable faces, but you might prefer crayons, paint or textas instead. If youโ€™re using paint, it is best to use a thicker paper better suited to painting.

Decorate with flowers and leaves

Now itโ€™s time for the fun part! Use your imagination to create funky hairstyles, hats, earrings and accessories using the leaves and flowers youโ€™ve collected. You might even like to glue the flowers and leaves in place so you can give the portraits to your friends and family!
