Giant Swing, Climbing Adventure Tower & SA’s Longest Zipline | Mount Lofty Adventure Hub | Review

Giant Swing, Climbing Adventure Tower & SA’s Longest Zipline

This trio of aerial adventures is perfect for thrill seekers including kids above 120cm and weighing more than 25kg. Expect 90 minutes of jaw-dropping action starting with a rock wall climb to the top of a 15m adventure tower (the highest artificial climbing wall in South Australia), then fly through the air on a giant swing and conquer South Australia’s longest zipline at a massive 324 metres!

You’ll find Mount Lofty Adventure Hub nestled within the grounds of Woodhouse Activity Centre’s 54 hectares of beautiful Adelaide Hills land. If you haven’t ventured up this way, it’s just a quick zip up the SE Freeway, turning off at Crafers and following Picadilly Rd until you reach Spring Rd, Piccadilly. The huge 15 m adventure tower is hard to miss as it’s right opposite the Tube Slides at Woodhouse.

Make sure you arrive 15 minutes earlier than your start time. It takes about 5 minutes to park at the Woodhouse Activity Centre carpark where you’ll firstly need to check in at the office and sign a waiver form. You can then either walk or drive the very short distance (1 min drive) to park right next to Mount Lofty Adventure Hub’s shed.

There are toilets onsite and chairs and a table for anyone wishing to watch from afar. You can also sit in the amphitheatre for a close-up view if you’re simply observing. If you’re planning to get up close and take photos, you will need to wear a helmet for your own safety.

On arrival, you will be greeted by friendly staff and then harnessed up with assistance (ask for help if you’re not certain or need extra assistance tightening straps etc.) You will also be provided with a safety helmet. All instructions are clear and concise but if you have any questions at all, make sure you ask the highly qualified staff who are there to assist at all times.

The first stop on this adventure is the giant climbing wall. You’ll be harnessed in and attached to ropes for your safety as you climb up to the top of this massive 15 m tower to ring the cow bell. The climbing wall can accommodate 2 people at a time which means you can climb with a friend. Depending upon how many people are booked in and time constraints, you may be able to climb the wall twice!

Giant Swing

The next adventure is the Giant Swing, a wild ride that will definitely give you an adrenaline rush!  You’ll be provided with an extra seat-like harness before climbing onto a stool to reach the swing where you’ll then be securely harnessed to the swing. There is no seat as such so your legs will dangle free but you can hold onto the beam if you wish. You’ll then be slowly hoisted up 18 metres into the sky to take in the views. One lucky person in the swing (that can accommodate up to 3 people) will pull the rope that launches you on a thrilling ride that will take your breath away. You’ll swing slowly back and forth until the swing can be brought to a standstill.

324m Zipline

Finally, you’ll get to experience the longest zipline in South Australia at a massive 324 metres long. After climbing up a series of ladders within the adventure tower, you’ll be harnessed to the zipline and before you know it, flying past giant pines, across fields and over a creek to reach the end of the zipline. If you’re watching from the sidelines as I did, the zipline is so long that your kids will literally disappear into the distance! At the end of the zipline, you’ll recoil backwards and have to be ready to throw the rope to the staff who will draw you back safely onto the platform. Then it’s a 300-metre walk back to the giant adventure tower.

Why we loved this experience

The kids absolutely loved this entire experience because it definitely delivered the thrills that adventure lovers crave! We’d definitely recommend it for teens and even younger kids that are not afraid of heights and that are seeking adventures like this. It’s also perfect for adults and you can team up with your kids and go together.

The whole experience was also very well managed, the staff were attentive and helpful and the helmets, harnesses and safety gear were all clean and in great condition. The staff also explained safety information very clearly and even the younger kids seemed to be able to follow the instructions with no trouble.
