Goolwa Animal Farm | A Family Farm for Great Outdoor Play

Goolwa Animal Farm

Goolwa Animal Farm

Since the Goolwa Animal Farm opened recently in December 2013, we have had a few Play & Go readers contact us, sharing positive feedback and telling us we must visit them. We finally fit in a visit and our little Play & Go testers were not disappointed.

This place has a lovely, really homely feel and the kids just loved it. We stayed for over 2 hours but could have easily stayed longer. The boys loved the play areas, the petting area with rabbits and guinea pigs (whiling away about an hour there) and they especially loved exploring the wind chimes in the musical garden.

This is a family run place – the owners, Alan & Caroline are very friendly and accommodating – and obviously do it with much love. They are also refurbishing an antique Glenelg rail carriage to be a cafe.

There are about six outdoor picnic tables and chairs set up in the play area. You could easily spend the whole day here after you’ve seen all the animals. It would also be a great place for a Birthday party or other gathering.

There are pony rides as well as a tractor train ride.

This is a terrific family friendly outing for animal and farm lovers, with great outdoor play areas for the kids to explore. A kiosk is there for coffee and snacks. Plus there are baby changing facilities as well.

For more information visit the Goolwa Animal Farm website here. See their entry prices here.

If you are wondering where Goolwa is, it is a river town at the mouth of the Murray River, on Lake Alexandrina, about 90km south of Adelaide in the eastern Fleurieu Peninsula (about 1 hour and 15 minutes drive). See map below to find it.

Went to Goolwa animal farm today with my husband and our 2.5yr old son. On arrival we were warmly welcomed/ greeted by the friendly who staff showed us around the site (we weren’t left as lost sheep). Fantastic value for money. Toilets clean (with soap) and clean baby change area. Sanitizer available at the small animal patting area. Our toddler loved holding/ patting & feeding pellets to the rabbits, guinea pigs & kangaroos; we probably spent about an hour in this area. A cup of pellets is available to buy, can be fed to all the animals.
Our toddler also loved the pony ride and open Playspace (wooden blocks, sandpit, cubby house etc). In total, were there for a couple of hours… our son would have been happy to stay another 2 hours; he was really into exploring each area…for a long time. He didn’t want to leave.
My husband and I are very impressed & we highly recommend for children of all ages. Looking forward to our next visit very soon.

G’day G’day G’day What a wonderfully fun and relaxing day it was to visit and hang around at the Goolwa Animal Farm.
Allan and Carolyn (the owners) were great to approach and share a yarn or two about the place and plans to build more into the exciting adventure of an animal farm for all to visit on a family drive out in the country.
There were a lot of areas that could be explored and shared, with the wee animals to the large emus and alpacas.
Our young daughter thoroughly enjoyed having a ride on ‘Patches’ their 7 year old pony and picking up the rabbits to share a cuddle with, feeding the lambs and chooks and guinea pigs.
They have a great large play area with toys and sand pit and stepping logs and plenty of seating for families sit back and relax while watching their children run a play.
As another visitor had shared, you really do lose track of time with all the little adventures your young ones can discover when walking and playing around the Goolwa Animal Farm.
It was a real hoot of a place to visit and this was our second time in the month with many more visits in store.
Thanks again Allen and Carolyn (hope I remembered correctly) and your extra helpers about the place.
    Cheers PJ and family
