Grossed Out Game Show: Adelaide Fringe 2023 Review.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️   5 Stars for hectic games, audience participation and lots and lots of slime.

Review by Claire Davill

Matty Grey’s usual frenetic pace, ability to hype up kids, and frequent audience participation are all turned up a notch for his third Fringe show offering for 2023. Grossed Out Game Show is possibly his best show yet – it’s certainly the loudest!

Joined on stage by two helpful minions and two victims/guests (in this instance the delightful Circus Firemen), the minions, guests and audience are split into the Blue Team and Yellow Team. Loud encouragement of respective teams is expected, and heckling of the opposing team is mandatory. The objective is straightforward – a series of games allows the teams to earn points. The more points, the more slime gets poured on the opposing team guest at the end.

Every game included child or adult participation, with the exception of a very dramatic sloth fight on stage. Everything from silly string, lolly snakes on fishing rods, “siamese triplet” pants and balloon-stuffed sumo suits, to fishbowls and water guns are employed in non-stop antics that had the kids screaming in delight. The whole game show format – complete with a dramatic inflation of the slime booth and copious slime at the end – was reminiscent of the TV game show Double Dare (for those of us old enough to remember it!).

Once again, Matty knows what kids love, and what parents hate. The show manages to combine good clean fun with gross humour and disgusting slime.

Note that the show is very loud (mostly from the hyped up audience) and that headphones are provided for those with sensory concerns.
