Hotel Paradiso | Circus Show | Adelaide Fringe Review 2020

Hotel Paradiso – a Fun Circus Show for the Whole Family at the Adelaide Fringe

★★★★½ – 4½ stars for great family entertainment with thrilling acrobatics, laughs and fun!

Hotel Paradiso is a clever, funny and entertaining show with a simple story interwoven with acrobatics, juggling, trapeze and slapstick comedy. It’s great fun and it will make adults and kids alike, smile, gasp and laugh!

Hotel Paradiso is a dilapidated hotel owned by Madame which is facing closure after an unwanted visit from the stern and intimidating Bank Manager, Mrs Sausage (pronounced “soosarge” in French) and her partner. Madame and her loyal staff including the Maid, the Concierge and the Bellhop try in vain to prevent it’s closure.

The performers from theatrical circus group, Lost in Translation are highly skilled circus performers displaying great energy with seamless acrobatic and comedic timing.

With a mesmerising scene featuring some eye-watering contortion by the Maid while dangling from a chandelier, a great trapeze scene and juggling and balancing acts, there were plenty of impressive stunts to impress the crowd. One of the highlights was the Bell Boy balancing on a dinner tray which was upheld by wine bottles and a wobbly wine cooler, all while carrying a tray and spinning plates at the same time!

The funniest scene featured Madame, moping onto the stage with a hula hoop around her waist after learning the Bank had closed the hotel. Madame’s funny facial expressions and ridiculous attempts to pour wine into the glass while spinning the hoop which constantly got in the way were hilarious.

Hotel Paradiso was a joy to watch – the performers were full of energy, there were plenty of impressive physical feats, laughs and fun to be enjoyed by the whole audience.
