New Blackwood Playground planned
Good news for residents of Blackwood – new playgrounds to be installed in 2017
Keep an eye out for the new local level nature playspace planned for Blackwood in 2017. The City of Mitcham is planning to replace the playgrounds at Avenue Road Reserve, Ossie Goldsworthy Reserve and Barrans Reserve.
The new Blackwood Playground at Ossie Goldsworthy Reserve will be redeveloped in 2017, following community feedback which finished on Friday 14 October 2016. It will include a nature and adventure play area.
New Blackwood Playground Concept Plan
The new Blackwood Playground will include the following nature and adventure play elements:
Timber Kangaroo
Custom timber carved “Lazy Kangaroo” providing playful understanding of natural fauna habitat
Spider themed cubbie frame
Spider themed cubbie frame allowing for loose parts construction and imaginary play
Giant gum nuts
Giant gum nuts create a play destination and exploration of the natural environment. Plays with perception of human scale and imaginary life as a bug
Picnic shelter and bench
5m x 5m hardwood picnic shelter and picnic bench
Path
1.2m wide stabilised gravel path to be sympathetic to the natural surroundings and minimise impact on existing trees
Seating
Custom salvaged hardwood log seat with backrest
Seesaw
Timber butterfly themed seesaw springer providing social and collaborative play opportunities
Parkour challenge
Timber parkour challenge including monkey bars and platform slide providing a diversity of play challenges that appeals to a broad age range in developing gross motor skills
Microscope viewer
Custom log stump microscope viewer encourages children to explore and inquire about the natural world through play
Local boulder and salvaged log softfall retaining edge
Provides informal seating and play challenges
Timber frame swing
Double bay timber frame swing with toddler seat and strap seat. Rubber softfall wearpad provided under mulch
Logs
Salvaged logs with dynamic natural features to encourage play challenges and cognitive exploration
Basket swing
Timber frame basket swing providing an inclusive and social play experience, rubber softfall underneath to allow for disability access
