Making Henley Beach Accessible
Henley Beach is the first totally accessible beach in South Australia, featuring beach wheelchairs, beach mats available 24/7 and the new Changing Places, a facility to assist those with high support needs and their families and carers.
Celebrate the launch of summer activities and accessible Henley with the City of Charles Sturt and Henley Surf Life Saving Club on Saturday 19 October 2019.
Official opening of Changing Places is at 1pm.
Volunteers from the Henley Surf Lifesaving Club will be on hand from 1-3pm to assist with the beach wheelchairs.
A special 5 minute passenger loading zone will be available from 9am – 4pm in the northern carpark.
Beach mats
Beach matting is a long sturdy mat that can be rolled out over the top of soft sand. It is accessible by wheelchair and those who have difficulty walking through soft sand to reach the water’s edge.
Beach mats are in use at Henley Beach between October and Easter each year, Thursday to Sunday. Mat roll out is subject to tide times, weather conditions and resources.
Beach wheelchairs
Did you know you can hire a wheelchair that can go into the water? They’re available for free hire half-day hire from October to Easter each year. To avoid disappointment phone 8408 1333 for more information.
