Less to Landfill October – Adelaide Waste Collective – Ideas Into Action
Did you know we are send about 17,000 tonnes of waste to landfill every week in the Adelaide metropolitan area alone? Most of what we put in landfill bins could be recycled, composted or avoided altogether.
Councils and businesses are paying significant amounts to manage this, and continually rising costs are likely to be passed on to households. The waste of resources and cost to the environment is huge.
Adelaide Waste Collective are challenging you, your neighbours and the community of Adelaide to their ‘Less to Landfill October’ challenge. How much can you reduce each week? What about not putting out the bin for the entire month of October?
For some this might be easy, but for many it is a pretty big challenge. But don’t stress, it’s not a competition and some may be restricted by location or personal circumstances. The aim is just to contribute to reducing landfill.
As a community, everyone who wants to get involved can do this together, sharing plenty of information, tips and ideas – changes they can proudly carry into the months and years beyond.
The focus will be on:
- Thinking before you throw
- Feeding food scraps to FOGO
- Don’t waste a resource
- Apply the Rs
- Holt your landfill bin
We can all play a part – invite your family, friends, neighbours, work colleagues and everyone else, as it’s time to get Reducing, Reusing and Recycling!
