Mumpling Dumpling & Boba, Unley | Review

From cheeseburger dumplings to bubble tea topped with cereal, this quirky Unley spot brings serious fun to family dining.

They had us at cheeseburger dumplings!

If you’re craving dumplings (and have not been sidetracked by the new Mala Town hot pot venue just down the road), Mumpling Dumpling & Boba is the spot to hit.

Located inside Unley Shopping Centre, the eatery is hard to miss with its red, white and blue tartan-style signage, cheerful neon lighting, and adorable, mumsy mascot.

Lunch here turned out to be a fun and satisfying school holiday outing with our 11-year-old twin sons – the perfect break between shopping errands.

Among the highlights of our family feast were the aforementioned cheeseburger dumplings! These are packed with classic burger flavours, served on a bed of hot chips, drizzled with sriracha mayo, and sprinkled with spring onions and sesame seeds. It’s like a deconstructed Happy Meal with an Asian twist.

We also savoured perfectly crispy salt‑and‑pepper tofu cubes (far better than anything I manage at home) and a comforting bowl of dumpling laksa noodle soup. You can choose from vegetarian, pork and cabbage, or chicken and prawn dumplings in the soup. We added a bao dish to our order too, featuring two crispy chicken bao buns with sriracha mayo and a side of fries.

Other menu highlights include fried chicken salad, wonton noodle soup, and dumplings served in chilli oil. You can also opt for noodle or rice combos with beef and broccoli, Mongolian chicken or honey chicken. Enjoy these with such sides as shallot donuts, crab sticks, and spring rolls.

From 3pm to 5pm (as at July 2025), snack pack specials are available, perfect for after-school hunger. Think fried chicken and chips, or pork potstickers.

As the name suggests, bubble tea is also a big part of the eatery’s offering. Flavours range from fruit-based options like passionfruit peach and strawberry, to milk teas such as taro and matcha.

Lactose-free milk is available, and toppings include fruity popping boba, rainbow jelly, and even cereal add-ins like Milo crunch and cocoa pops. A helpful tip is to reduce the sugar level, as many drinks are naturally sweet. You can select anything from zero to full sugar.

Sadly, its once-famous Vegemite bubble tea (with milk, boba pearls, whipped cream, chocolate and cereal) no longer appears on the menu.

The eatery’s name, Mumpling, is a tribute to owner Chi’s mother, combining the words ‘mum’ and ‘dumpling’. (There’s a signature milk bubble tea in her mum’s honour, as well.)

Dine in at one of its few tables or grab takeaway. The daytime venue also offers event catering.

With bold flavours and playful menu twists, this fare is sure to lift you out of the (food) dumps!
