A new vision for Cleland Wildlife Park was launched today, with exciting ideas to make this much loved South Australian park an “an international, world-class visitor destination”.
The focus would be on conservation, education and entertainment, with a bit of adventure thrown in too.
While continuing its focus as a wildlife park, new features such as a cable car to bring visitors up the hill easily and make the most of views over Adelaide are part of the vision. The cable car could potentially go to Mt Lofty as well.
A zipline, Tree Top Walk, hang-gliding simulator, hotel, shopping, restaurant and bar also features.
A Cultural Pavilion would provide a Kaurna cultural experience, acknowledging the traditional owners of the land.
An International Koala Centre of Excellence would provide a home for research and education, allowing visitors to get up close to koalas.
The ideas have been developed by LKF Group, a Hong Kong based company which successfully transformed Hong Kong’s Ocean Park into a busy tourist attraction. Allan Zeman, Chairman of LKF explained that visitors would first enter the park through an Australiana village, and then walk through the animal enclosures.
Over the next twelve months the State Government will sound out if there is enough interest to make this a reality. It is unclear how much funding will come from the State Government and how much will come from private investment.
We will watch with interest to see if this vision is supported and will become a reality.
