Set sail for a day of discovery at the South Australian Maritime Museum these school holidays. Explore fascinating maritime stories, get hands-on with interactive activities, and step aboard the historic MV Archie Badenoch for a Port River adventure.

Lost & Found LEGO® Trail

Let your imagination set sail with the Lost & Found LEGO® Trail. Designed for children aged 5 -15, this fun and interactive trail brings the museum to life as children search for hidden clues, collect letters and reveal a secret word. Once the code is cracked, participants can enter the draw to win an awesome LEGO® prize.

Dates: 26 September – 11 October 2026
Time: 10.00am – 5.00pm
Cost: Free – included with museum admission

Port River Heritage Tour aboard MV Archie Badenoch

Climb aboard the historic MV Archie Badenoch for a guided journey along the Port River. Discover the stories behind this remarkable vessel, which was built during World War II for the Royal Australian Navy before serving as the South Australian Police Number 1 Water Police Launch until 1978.

The cruise will take approximately 1 hour with stops along the way at many of the historical areas and points of interest along the Port River.

Tour tickets include same-day entry to the South Australian Maritime Museum.

School holiday tour dates:

• Saturday 26 September, 11.00am
• Saturday 10 October, 11.00am

Ketch Close-Up aboard Active II

Step aboard the full-size trading ketch Active II and discover what life was like for sailors at sea. This hands-on experience invites visitors to explore how a crew lived and worked, from sleeping and eating to navigating the waters.

Get up close with the vessel, handle real equipment and uncover the stories behind life aboard a working ketch. A fun and interactive experience for all ages, bringing maritime history to life without ever leaving dry land.

Sessions: Daily at 10.30am & 1.30pm
Duration: 30 minutes
Cost: Free – included with museum admission

Make Your Own Message in a Bottle

Discover the incredible story of a real message in a bottle found 83 years after it was sent to sea. Dropped from a boat travelling to Western Australia, the bottle washed ashore in South Australia with a fragile note from the 1930s still inside.

After uncovering this fascinating piece of maritime history, children can get creative and make their own message-in-a-bottle, imagining where their message might travel and what stories it could share in the future.

With LEGO® adventures, maritime discoveries, creative activities and a historic river cruise, there is something for every young explorer at the South Australian Maritime Museum these school holidays.
