SA Sports Voucher Program | 2 Vouchers per Child per Year

The Sports Vouchers initiative will expand again from 1 January 2027, with two $100 vouchers to become available for all South Australian children and young people aged 5 to 18 years old.

The South Australian Sports Voucher program currently provides an opportunity for school-aged children in South Australia from Reception to Year 9 to receive a discount on sports or dance membership/registration fees and learn to swim programs.

Launched by the State Government in 2015 as a single $50 voucher for children in Reception to Year 7, the program has grown into one of the state’s most successful participation initiatives.  Eventually increasing to $100 per child, Peter Malinauskas announced the school sports vouchers program would double from one to two $100 vouchers per child, per year from 1 January 2025.  The voucher also expanded to include music lessons.

Over the past decade, families have used Sports Vouchers with 2,525 providers, supporting more than 410,000 children and young people to get involved in activities that keep them moving, learning and engaged away from screens.

The most popular activities accessed through this initiative since its inception are:

  • Australian Rules football – 243,713 vouchers
  • Football/soccer – 143,849 vouchers
  • Netball – 121,828 vouchers
  • Swimming – 109,531 vouchers
  • Dance – 74,660 vouchers

You can view all of the yearly stats here.

Who is eligible for the program?

Available to children living in South Australia in Reception to Year 9.  All South Australian primary school aged children, meaning if the child is attending or is eligible to attend primary school (Reception to Year 6) plus children at high school in Year 7, 8 and 9.

From 2027, 16–18-year-olds will become eligible for the scheme, providing more opportunities for young people to get active and connected with the community.

The Sports Vouchers Plus program provides 2 x $100 vouchers per child, per calendar year.

You can claim both vouchers with the same provider – just let them know you wish to use both vouchers to deduct $200 off the total fees for your child.

How does the program work?

There are currently two methods of claiming a voucher. The method depends on the provider’s system. Some providers have online registrations, claiming the voucher has been integrated into their systems.

If the provider does not have the voucher integrated into their online registrations, you’ll need to download the voucher. Once completed, take the voucher to an approved provider to receive a discount on the fees when you register.
